Meet the Instructors

Chief Instructor - Sensei Antony
I have had a passion for Martial Arts for a number of years and finally decided to take up Wado Ryu Karate in 2004, when friends of mine opened a club of their own. From that point I’ve never looked back achieving various Dan grades as well as studying various styles that I am currently still learning now!

Karate is like boiling water, if you do not heat it constantly, it will cool
(Precepts of Karate no.11, Gichin Funakoshi –
Father of modern day Karate)

For me Martial Arts are a large part of my life and I wish to share this passion by teaching others at Suzaku Martial Arts, where we teach respect for ourselves and others.

Put your everyday living into karate and you will find "Myo" (subtle secrets)
(Precepts of Karate no.10, Gichin Funakoshi –
Father of modern day Karate)

3rd Dan Wado Ryu

Assistant Chief Instructor - Sensei Abi
I initially began my training in Wado-Ryu Karate in 2004 at the age of 9 to learn to defend myself. Since then I have realised the benefits of Kata and techniques as I have developed and I've learned to appreciate both.

There is no first strike in karate
(Precepts of Karate no.5, Gichin Funakoshi –
Father of modern day Karate)

Through completing both Adult and Cadet grading's in various styles I've come to develop a rounded understanding and become more broad minded. The true spirit of Martial Arts is one of respect for yourself and others around you, and in my experience all who practice Martial Arts learn confidence and new abilities.

Spirit first, technique second
(Precepts of Karate no.5, Gichin Funakoshi –
Father of modern day Karate)

Sensei Angi (1965 - 2015)
In memory of Sensei Angi who is still with us in spirit and in the heart of the club.

Sensei Angi gave all and showed all what was possible and what could be done and to not give up. Sensei Angi will always be remembered through the Instructors, Students and strength of the club and all of it's members.

When I started Karate in 2004 I wasn’t sure what I could achieve due to my disability. I quickly found that I was more able then I believed and my confidence only grew as my balance improved and I gained the stamina to achieve my goal. The day I achieved my Dan grade was one of the proudest of my life!

First know yourself before attempting to know others
(Precepts of Karate no.4, Gichin Funakoshi – Father of modern day Karate)

I found that my limitations do not stop me from training and grading as any other student. Karate is beneficial for all and all abilities, ages and fitness. We believe in self respect and the respect of others.

The only difference between the possible and the impossible is one's will
(Master Hironori Ohtsuka, 1892-1982 –
Founder of Wado Ryu Karate)
